Someone at New Delhi station says the road or bridge is closed
Ignore them. Walk the way you planned, or use the station's prepaid booth.
Near New Delhi station and Paharganj, a person says the bridge is one-way, Paharganj is closed for a holiday, or you need a tourist pass, then steers you to an auto or an agency. One traveller was sent down to the street, told a holiday blocked entry, and offered a few-hundred-rupee ride to a "tourist office". The UK government also warns about people at railway stations offering tickets and tours.
Say this
“No, thank you. I'm fine.”
In Hindi: Nahin, shukriya. Mujhe pata hai.
Do this
- Keep walking at the same pace and don't stop to explain.
- Check the route on your map app. A bridge or road that locals are using freely is open.
- If you want a ride, use the prepaid booth run under Delhi Traffic Police. Its list includes New Delhi station on the Ajmeri Gate and Paharganj sides.
- Or book an app cab from a spot away from the crowd.
Use this instead
Prepaid booth, an app cab, or your hotel's pickup if you've confirmed it.
