Someone says the monument or market is closed today
Probably a scam if a stranger told you. Check the gate or the official timing yourself.
A person who walked up to you says the fort, tomb or market is closed for a holiday, a prayer or a function, then offers a place that is open, often a shop or a cafe. One traveller was told "only three places are open today", and all three were close to each other and to the people telling him.
Say this
“Thanks, I'll check at the gate.”
In Hindi: Theek hai, main gate par dekh lunga.
Do this
- Walk to the ticket counter or gate and see for yourself. It is usually a few minutes away.
- Or look up the official timings on the monument's own site or a map app.
- Ignore any invitation to a different place "while you wait".
Keep in mind
Closures are real sometimes. Some museums close one day a week, and events can shut roads. Red Fort, for example, was closed on Mondays until February 2026 and is now open every day. So check at the source. Don't trust the person who stopped you, and don't rely on older blogs either.
Use this instead
The ticket counter, the official monument page, or a map app showing today's hours.
