Someone offers ear cleaning, a blessing, a bracelet or a "free" gift
Decline early and keep walking. The "free" part ends with a demand for money.
Ear cleaners, people offering a blessing or tilak, bracelet or flower sellers and photo-takers approach tourists in busy places like Connaught Place. Once you say yes, or even let them start, travellers report a demand for money. A stranger may also appear to warn you about the scam, then keep the conversation going.
Say this
“No, thank you.”
In Hindi: Nahin chahiye.
Do this
- Say no before they touch you or put anything on you. A raised palm and a smile works.
- Don't take things offered "for free". Keep your bag in front of you while you decline.
- Keep walking. Don't stop to explain.
- If something was put on you, take it off and walk away.

Temples and shrines have official offerings and donation boxes. Use those if you want to give.
