A driver says my hotel sent him to pick me up
Check with your hotel before you get in. The driver should know your name.
Hotel pickups are common and fine. The UK government's advice is that if a hotel driver collects you at the airport, they should identify themselves properly before you set off. Scammers can copy that by holding a card with a name or saying a hotel's name.
Say this
“Please wait. I'll confirm with the hotel.”
In Hindi: Ruko, main hotel se confirm karta hoon.
Do this
- Ask for the driver's name and the name of the guest he is meant to pick up.
- Message or call the hotel using the number on your booking. Ask for the driver's name and car plate.
- Only get in when the details match. If they don't, use an app cab or the prepaid booth.
Keep in mind
A driver holding a sign with your exact name, who knows your hotel and booking details, is normal. A stranger who only says "hotel car" is not enough.
Use this instead
A hotel pickup you confirmed in writing, or an app cab.
