What to Do When Your Metro Station Near Jantar Mantar Is Closed
Stations near Jantar Mantar sometimes close for entry and exit on protest days. How to still get there, what stays open, and how to check before you leave.

If your station is shut, get off at another one and walk or take a cab for the last stretch. The one confirmed closure so far (2 October 2026) lasted about a day.

Why stations close#
DMRC closes entry and exit at stations near a protest site when police ask for it. On 2 October 2026 it closed 12 stations in central Delhi and reopened them that night (Tribune). The trains themselves kept running, and interchange at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, New Delhi and Central Secretariat stayed open.
What to do#
- Check first. Look at DMRC's official channels before you leave.
- Pick a station that is open. The usual ones are Patel Chowk, Janpath, Central Secretariat and Rajiv Chowk. If they are all shut, a station further out and a short cab ride works. See the nearest station guide.
- Walk or cab the last bit. Some roads may be diverted or barricaded. Delhi Traffic Police's 2 October advisory covered Connaught Place to Patel Chowk, Tolstoy Marg and Jantar Mantar Road.
- Don't park on regulated roads. The advisory said stopping or parking there was prohibited.
- Give yourself extra time. The advisory warned of longer travel times.
Interchanging#
Interchange facilities stayed open at four stations on 2 October. If you are changing trains, you probably don't need to leave the station. Confirm on the day.
Is it a regular thing?#
Closures have only been confirmed for 2 October. A bigger demonstration is planned for 10 October. Nothing has been announced. Follow live updates.
Decide between walking and a cab#
- Walk if you can get off at an open station and the road route is not barricaded. Listings give about 10 minutes from Patel Chowk and Rajiv Chowk to Jantar Mantar, and about 4 from Janpath, though those are third-party estimates.
- Cab or auto if you have luggage, the weather is bad, or the open station is Central Secretariat (about 1.7 km per YoMetro). Ask the driver to drop you at the nearest open point rather than at the exact gate, since barricaded roads may block the last stretch.
- Wait if it is the middle of a protest day and you aren't in a hurry. The 2 October closures were over by that night.
A short checklist before you leave#
- Open DMRC's official channels and look for a notice naming stations and times.
- Look at Delhi Traffic Police's latest advisory for the roads you will use.
- Have a second station in mind from the nearest-station guide.
- If you plan to enter the monument, check its hours and ticket details.
- Carry ID and follow police instructions on site.
