On Friday 2 October 2026, DMRC closed entry and exit at 12 central Delhi metro stations because of the protests at Jantar Mantar. All 12 reopened that night. We have not verified a fresh closure notice for 5 October. DMRC's X page could not be read in this check; the 2 October reopening report is not a guarantee of today's status.

The 12 stations#

  • Janpath
  • Patel Chowk
  • Central Secretariat
  • Rajiv Chowk
  • Barakhamba Road
  • Seva Teerth
  • Mandi House
  • Lok Kalyan Marg
  • INA
  • Chawri Bazar
  • Ramakrishna Ashram Marg
  • New Delhi

Early reports said 11 stations. The Tribune's later report lists 12, which is the list above. Reports said DMRC closed them "till further notice" in the morning. The Tribune reported they were open again by 11:17 PM IST. We don't have the exact time each one reopened.

Could you still change trains?#

DMRC's morning announcement, reproduced by The Hindu on 2 October, said interchange remained available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, INA, New Delhi and Central Secretariat. The Tribune's later report lists Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, New Delhi and Central Secretariat but omits INA. The announcement concerned entry and exit restrictions, not a complete network shutdown. We have not independently verified every interchange throughout the day.

Is this permanent?#

No, these were temporary. A bigger demonstration is planned for 10 October. We have not verified station closures for it. A protest call alone is not a DMRC closure announcement. We will update our protest page if anything is announced.

If your station is closed#

Get off one stop earlier or later and walk, or take a cab. More in what to do when a station is shut. Our nearest station guide lists the alternatives.

What a closure notice actually means#

"Entry and exit closed" is narrower than "station closed". On 2 October trains kept running through all of these stations, and interchange between lines stayed available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, New Delhi and Central Secretariat. So if you are already on a train and your stop is on the list, you can usually stay on, change lines where interchange is open, and get off at the next station that is open.

Which of the 12 matter for Jantar Mantar#

Four are the stations most visitors use: Patel Chowk, Janpath, Central Secretariat and Rajiv Chowk. See which is closest. The other eight (Barakhamba Road, Seva Teerth, Mandi House, Lok Kalyan Marg, INA, Chawri Bazar, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg and New Delhi) are further out in central Delhi, so a closure there affects trips across the centre more than the walk to the monument.

How the closure played out#

  • Morning, 2 October: DMRC announced the closures, reported at the time as "till further notice" (Hindustan Times, Mint).
  • Later that day: the Tribune reported the gates reopened, with its update at 11:17 PM IST.
  • 3 October: Outlook reported all stations back in service.

The exact time each station reopened wasn't published in the reports we found.
