How to take the Airport Express from IGI T3 to New Delhi: stations, timings, tickets, luggage rules, and interchange tricks for first-time travelers.
The Delhi Airport Express (Orange Line) is the only airport transfer that ignores Delhi traffic. IGI T3 to New Delhi station in ~20 minutes for ₹60, with space for luggage and trains every 10–15 minutes. If you can use it — daytime, light bags, hotel near a metro line — use it.

Step by Step: T3 to City#
1. Find the station#
At T3 arrivals, ignore anyone offering a taxi inside the terminal. Follow overhead orange signs for "Airport Express / Metro." The station is below the arrivals level — escalator down, you can't miss it if you follow signs, not people. At T1/T2, you first reach Aerocity station by free shuttle bus from the terminal (signed at arrivals) then board.
2. Buy the right ticket#
- Single token (jeton): queue at counter or TVM, say "New Delhi" or "Shivaji Stadium." Keep the token — you tap out with it.
- Tourist card: at the New Delhi Airport Express counter only, ask for 1-day or 3-day tourist cards — unlimited metro rides, pays back at 3–4 rides/day. See our metro tickets guide for card math.
- QR ticket: Delhi Metro's WhatsApp/DMRC app QR also works — show phone at gate.
No need to buy a dumb "tour package" from a tout — the counter price is the price.
3. Ride and watch for your stop#
- If hotel near Connaught Place / Karol Bagh / Chandni Chowk / Hauz Khas: exit at New Delhi and interchange to Yellow Line (follow yellow signs, tap token at interchange gate). Two stops to Rajiv Chowk (CP), four to Chandni Chowk.
- If hotel in Connaught Place itself: stay one more stop to Shivaji Stadium — 8-minute walk to CP inner circle, no interchange.
- If hotel in Dwarka/Gurgaon edge: stay on to Dwarka Sector 21.
Trains have dedicated luggage racks — use them; blocking doors with suitcases draws a fine.
4. Interchange without getting lost#
New Delhi station's interchange is signed but long — 5-minute walk via escalators. Keep your token/card for the second gate. If you tapped out by mistake, ask staff — they reissue without charge for genuine interchange errors.
Aerocity station will become a major interchange hub when the Phase 4 Golden Line opens — for now it is just the T1 connector.

How long is T3 to New Delhi station really? 19–23 minutes gate to gate, traffic-free. Add 10 minutes queue+walk at T3 and 10 minutes interchange to Yellow Line.
Can I buy tickets with UPI or foreign cards? Yes — TVMs take foreign cards per recent reports, counters take UPI/cash. Tourist cards are counter-only.
